My name is Yvonne Barceló, and I am the power of attorney for my friend Leon, who lives at Starfish Village. I stay very involved in his care and always want what is best for him.
Before Starfish, Leon was in another place where the cost kept going up, but the care did not feel personal. I knew I had to find a better home for him a place where he would feel safe, comfortable, and truly cared for.
When Leon moved to Starfish, I brought some of his pictures and personal items to make his room feel like home. But what really made the biggest difference was the people. The caregivers are kind, patient, and attentive. They treat Leon with respect and warmth, and I can see that he feels comfortable with them.
Since moving to Starfish, Leon has changed in a very good way. He is happier, more active, and joins in activities more often. Before, he was more quiet, but now he is more engaged and relaxed. That gives me so much peace.
The team also does a great job with communication. They keep me informed, and every time I visit, I feel welcome. I can tell they truly care about Leon and his well-being.
I also really appreciate that the caregivers stay. There is not a lot of staff change like in other places. That helps Leon feel safe and build trust with the people around him.
Another thing I value is how involved the owners are. You can tell this is not just a business they truly care about the residents.
I would strongly recommend Starfish to other families. Leon is not treated like a number. He is treated like a person, with real care and attention. He enjoys home-cooked meals, meaningful activities, and most of all, he feels at home. That means everything to me.
